DFARS Rule Implements System for Award Management Changes

The Department of Defense has amended the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement to reflect the joining of the Central Contractor Registration, Online Representations and Certification Application, and Excluded Parties Listing System databases into the System for Award Management database. The SAM is a procurement system that streamlines the federal acquisition business processes by acting as a single authoritative data source for vendor, contract award, and reporting information. The SAM therefore eliminates the need to enter multiple sites and perform duplicative data entry, and it also consolidates hosting to improve the efficiency of doing business with the government. The rule updates references and names to conform to the SAM designation, and makes minor additional conforming changes, such as updates to definitions. The rule also makes related changes to the DFARS companion resource, Procedures, Guidance, and Information. A complete listing of the DFARS and PGI provisions impacted by the rule appears in the regulation table below. The effective date of the rule is May 16, 2013. For the text of the final rule, see ¶70,016.751.
