GSA issues 2018 CONUS per diems

The General Services Administration (GSA) has announced its fiscal year (FY) 2018 Continental U.S. (CONUS) per diem reimbursement rates. The GSA rates are often a predictor of the per diem rates set by the IRS. The IRS is expected to release its annual special per diem rates and guidance for taxpayers later in 2017. The CONUS per diem rate is made up of three allowances: the standard lodging allowance; the meals allowance; and the incidental expense allowance.
The standard CONUS per diem rate is $144 ($93 lodging, $51 meals and incidental expenses). In FY 2018, there are 332 Nonstandard Areas (NSAs) that have per diem rates higher than the standard CONUS rate. In FY 2018, 14 locations that were NSAs in FY 2017 have moved into the standard CONUS rate category.
The FY 2018 rates apply to travel on or after October 1, 2017, and through September 30, 2018.
There are no new NSA locations this year. In FY 2018, 14 locations that were NSAs in FY 2017 will move into the standard CONUS rate category. They include: Redding, CA; Cedar Rapids, IA; Bonner’s Ferry/Sandpoint, ID; Dickinson/Beulah, ND; Watertown, NY; Youngstown, OH; Enid, OK; Mechanicsburg, PA; Scranton, PA; Laredo, TX; McAllen, TX; Pearsall, TX; San Angelo, TX; and Gillette, WY.
