The IRS has announced tax relief for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the federal disaster areas of Carroll, Clark, Elkhart, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Lake, Marshall, and St. Joseph counties in Indiana, which were affected by severe storms and flooding beginning on February 14, 2018. The relief extends until June 29, 2018 deadlines for filing various returns, including the filing of Form 5500s, and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of February 14, 2018 and on or before June 29, 2018. This includes the April 18 deadline for filing 2017 individual income tax returns and the April 18 and June 15 deadlines for making quarterly estimated tax payments.
For payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after February 14, 2018, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalties if such deposits were made by March 1, 2018.
