The IRS has announced tax relief for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the federal disaster areas of Guilford and Rockingham counties in North Carolina, which were affected by a tornado and severe storms on April 15, 2018. The relief extends until August 15, 2018 deadlines for filing various returns, including the filing of Form 5500s, and paying taxes otherwise due during the period of April 15, 2018 and on or before August 15, 2018. This includes the April 18 deadline for filing 2017 individual income tax returns and the April 18 and June 15 deadlines for making quarterly estimated tax payments.
For payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after April 15, 2018, the IRS will waive the failure to deposit penalties if such deposits were made by April 30, 2018.
