Maine issues withholding tables for 2018

Maine has issued 2018 wage-bracket and percentage method withholding tables. All of the tables will be reproduced in the PAYROLL MANAGEMENT GUIDE at ¶6548 and ¶6549. The 2018 Maine personal exemption amount ($4,150) is the same as the federal exemption amount. The basic standard deduction amounts differ slightly from the standard deduction amounts used to calculate withholding. The supplemental wage rate will remain 5%.
The due date by which information returns, such as Form W-2, must be filed is changed from February 28th to January 31st following the calendar year to which the information return relates, effective to returns filed for calendar years beginning on or after January 1, 2017. In addition, information return data must be filed electronically. Paper copies of Forms W-2 and 1099 are not acceptable. The interest on payments not paid when due will be 6% for 2018.
