Massachusetts announces launch of new electronic tax filing system

The Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) has issued a news release informing corporate income taxpayers about the launch of a new electronic tax filing system, MassTaxConnect. The new system will replace the DOR’s Webfile for Business system on November 30, 2015, and filing will continue to be free. Taxpayers can log into MassTaxConnect with their WebFile for Business username and password. Taxpayers will be able to schedule payments online, view any errors prior to online submission, amend filed returns, send and receive secure messages, reduce calculation errors with automatic calculations, and assign access to a third party, such as a CPA or other tax preparer. In order to protect taxpayer identities, the DOR will no longer use personally identifiable information (e.g., Social Security numbers, employee identification numbers) on any correspondence, and will instead use a randomly assigned account number. Corporate filers are reminded that so long as they have 50% of their tax paid by the filing deadline for their annual corporate income tax return they will have an automatic six-month filing extension. Combined reporting filers will get an automatic seven-month extension. (News Release, Massachusetts Department of Revenue, September 9, 2015.)
