Oregon announces new deadline for electronic filing of W-2s, 1099s

The Oregon Department of Revenue (DOR) has issued a press release informing personal and corporate income taxpayers that the deadline for electronically filing informational returns, including W-2s and some 1099 forms, has been moved up to January 31, 2017. The new deadline is applicable for filing with both the IRS and the DOR. Taxpayers must file their W2s and most 1099s electronically using the DOR’s Income and Wage Information Return E-services (iWire) application. The information returns can be filed through manual entry, bulk file upload, or spreadsheet import. Tax filers can enter their information into the spreadsheet template and import that document directly into iWire, which will then create individual W-2 and 1099 entries for review and validation. Further, the manual entry option now looks like the information return form, making it quicker and easier for tax filers to enter data from a W-2 or a 1099 form. Also, tax filers can now save their progress at iWire, and its error detection process will now instantly tell users if there are any errors in their submission and the line number at which the error appears.
