CMS releases proposed certification standards for health insurance exchange navigators

CMS has issued a proposed rule adding to previously adopted standards for navigators, which are organizations authorized by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) to provide unbiased information to consumers about coverage options in the health insurance exchanges. Less than 20 percent of health plans will retain “grandfathered” status in 2013, report finds

Fifty-eight percent of employers that offered health care coverage in 2012 had at least one plan that was “grandfathered,” but an examination of 2013 plans reveals that, on average, less than 20 percent of plans retain that status, according to the
2013 Medical Plan Trends Report from HighRoads and CEB. For details, see ¶2066I.

New Mexico governor signs legislation to expand health care coverage for autism

Governor Susana Martinez has signed House Bill 22, expanding coverage under the Health Care Purchasing Act (HCPA) to include treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Any healthcare plan covered under the HCPA will be required to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism. For more information, see ¶2066J.

Confidence in continuance of employer-sponsored health care grows, says IFEBP

Confidence in the continuance of employer-sponsored health care has grown, with 69 percent of employers stating that they will definitely continue to provide it when health exchanges come online in 2014, according to preliminary results from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP).
