CMS announces data collection elements for participation and enrollment in ACA exchanges

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) “published” under the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) listing on its website, CMS.gov, four items available for comment and not released in paper version regarding data collection to implement Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) provisions to extend health insurance coverage under the new Affordable Insurance Exchanges. New accountable care organizations will result in better, more coordinated care, says HHS

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has recently announced that, as of July 1, 89 new Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) began serving 1.2 million people with Medicare in 40 states and Washington, D.C. For details, see ¶2059B.

Families in CDHPs spent 21 percent less than those in traditional plans

Families that switched from a traditional health plan to a consumer-driven health plan (CDHP) spent an average of 21 percent less on health care in the first year after switching plans than similar families remaining in traditional plans, according to research from RAND Health.
