Use E-File For Health Provider Information Form, IRS Advises

The IRS is encouraging covered entities that are subject to the health insurance provider fee under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) to submit Form 8963 via e-file. In the IRS Health Insurance Provider Fee (IPF) News for the 2015 reporting season, the IRS notes that e-file reduces the risk of transcription errors and reduces the report processing time. In addition, electronic filers receive immediate acknowledgement of receipt and are able to track submission status online.

The 2015 Form 8963 (Report of Health Insurance Provider Information) must be used for reporting in 2015. The form and instructions are available on irs.gov. The IRS began accepting e-filed Forms 8963 for 2015 on March 2, 2015.

Key dates. The IRS also reminds covered entities of the following key dates:

• April 15—due date for covered entities to submit 2015 Form 8963;
• June 15—IRS mails preliminary fee letters to covered entities;
• July 15—due date for covered entities to submit 2015 Form 8963 corrections;
• August 31—IRS mails final fee letters to covered entities; and
• September 30—payments due from covered entities to IRS via electronic funds transfer.

Covered entities that would like to request an acknowledgment that their Form 8963 has been received can email LB.I.IPF@irs.gov with the company information and/or certified tracking number. The IRS will reply when it has received the form. If an overnight service is used, add the email address LB.I.IPF@irs.gov in the recipient email.
